Family Support Services (FSS) assists families by enabling them to care for their family member with disabilities at home. FSS may include respite care, adaptive equipment and/or minor home modifications to accommodate the family member with a disability.

Provides monthly benefits to retired and disabled workers, their eligible spouses and children, and to eligible survivors of deceased workers. In order for benefits to be paid, a worker must have sufficient earnings in covered employment to gain insured status. Monthly benefits are payable to retired workers at age 62, or to disabled worker at any age. Auxiliary and survivor beneficiaries must generally meet an age, disability, or child care requirement. A worker's benefit amount is related to covered earnings averaged over a working lifetime. Auxiliary and survivor benefits are based on percentage of worker's benefit. Virtually all business can be conducted by telephone. Social Security numbers are issued free of charge, as are replacement cards. There is never any charge for services rendered by our office.

Provides fire prevention and protection services for the City of Garfield Heights. Provides periodic CPR and First Aid training, fire extinguisher training, carbon monoxide presentations, fire safety presentations for organized groups (such as an employer, church, schools, etc.) Also provides carbon monoxide investigations for residences or businesses. If there is a carbon monoxide positive test result, will refer to local gas supplier and leave a digital unit in the house for 24 hrs for continuous checks.

Provides a full-time animal warden who provides animal services for the City of Garfield Heights. Animals include domestic strays as well as wild animals.

Provides access to the treatment and support clients need for recovery. Allows patients to complete treatment while still attending school, remaining employed, and/or caring for their family. Includes a focus on substance abuse education, individual and group counseling, peer recovery support, case management, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and support groups.

Responsible for preventing, investigating, controlling, and extinguishing fires. Activities include fire safety education, firefighting, investigating the causes of suspicious fires, maintaining equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur, and enforcing fire codes.

A variety of Groups are held daily and can change monthly depending on interest and demand including but not limited to; BRIDGES, PTSD, Positive Thinking, Art & Creativity Groups, Walking Group, Men and Women's groups, Anger Management, Thinking for a Change, Take Back Ohio (Addiction Support Group). All members are encouraged to participate in groups of their choice to promote recovery.

Two options are available: Compliant - will need for air travel or Standard cards (Note: The federal government will no longer consider standard driver licenses and identification cards as sufficient forms of identification for air travel as of May 7, 2025.) Individuals may not hold both a state identity card and a state driver's license. Cards are good for eight (8) years, expiring on the applicant's birthday.

Provides safety education to schools and other community groups. Topics include: safety issues, drug and substance abuse through the D.A.R.E. school program home and commercial security surveys, robbery prevention education, bunco/fraud prevention, and neighborhood watch groups. Also makes vacation security checks of citizens' homes.

HPV vaccinations and gender affirming care are offered.

Offers a federally-funded child development program that provides educational experiences, medical disability and dental services, nutritional meals, counseling and opportunities for parental involvement to help prepare low-income children succeed in school. Services may be provided in centers or in the family's home as well as at other locations throughout the county.

Three complete meals for three days (total of 9 meals) available once every 30 days. May visit Mount Vernon branch for second monthly visit. Taxable items as available, referral made to other area food pantries and Hot Meals programs.

Works collaboratively with individuals and organizations in strategic neighborhoods to provide education, resources and strategic planning for growing food across the spectrum, from container gardening to urban farming.

Offers primary care health services for children including regular physical exams, vision, hearing and general development checks, and immunizations against childhood diseases.

Assists agricultural workers with governmental procedures related to immigration laws, recovery of unpaid wages, violations of farm worker protection laws, the application for and denial of public benefits, housing evictions, and a variety of consumer issues. Advocates not only work to resolve a clients immediate problem, but also provide education on the legal process and their rights and obligations. Service is limited by availability of staff and funding. There is no guarantee that a lawyer will be available to take a client's case.

Provides a three-day supply of food consisting of non-perishables, some produce and some meat. Packages are based on family size.

Free meals are available to anyone in the community. The Lancaster location offers lunch and dinner. The location in Logan offers lunch.

Provides legal representation to indigent defendants (persons facing possible incarceration), individuals who cannot afford legal representation for offenses in Hamilton County
