Nutrition education program for women, infants, and children. In addition to nutrition education, participants in the program receive monthly food benefits that include foods that help support growth and development (milk, eggs, beans, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and peanut butter).
Nutrition education provided through the WIC program is focused on meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy and until age 5. Common topics covered in WIC appointments include: healthy recipe ideas, cooking basics, family meal time, the roles of vitamins and minerals, and the recommended portions for certain age groups.
Our WIC program also provides breastfeeding education and helps link program participants to medical care and community resources. Women who are pregnant or who have recently had a baby, infants, and children under age 5 are eligible for the program if they receive a form of Ohio Medicaid, or if their household income is less than 185% of the poverty level.
