Provides Richland County residents the opportunity to form Neighborhood Watch groups and work as partners with law enforcement to reduce the opportunity for crime in their neighborhoods by reporting suspicious and criminal activities. Groups conduct meetings monthly, quarterly, or by newsletter as per the needs of each group. Officers spend many hours each quarter conducting neighborhood watch meetings to educate citizens on the concerns of their neighborhood. Many resources and area agencies provide speakers for the meetings to advise and answer resident's questions. The Crime Tip Phone was established for non-emergency tips about potential problems in the neighborhoods. Citizens may leave an anonymous message at any time on the answering machine. Messages are checked and an officer follows up on the crime tip.
