The client agrees to stop buying on credit and to stick to the budget that is worked out with the credit counselor. Can only help with "unsecured debt" such as: credit cards, debt collectors, and some personal loans. In some cases, can help with utility arrearages. Does not help with "secured debt" such as back taxes, government secured student loans, or car loans.
