Apprisen offers free, confidential counseling to help individuals deal with their personal situations. No matter if they are just beginning to get behind or are more seriously delinquent, trained housing counselors can help assess your financial situation in person or by phone. They will help to rework a budget and contact lenders if necessary to develop a plan to address the mortgage delinquency.

Provides guidance and advice to assist families and individuals meet the responsibilities of homeownership and modify or refinance their loans to avoid unreasonably high interest rates, unaffordable repayment terms, and other conditions that can result in a loss of equity, increased debt, default and eventually foreclosure. Counselors also assist homeowners with inquiries related to mortgage scams and reporting instances of potential mortgage scams victimization.

Attempts to prevent mortgage foreclosure by providing counseling for those experiencing the first signs of financial difficulty (fear of missing a mortgage payment, one, two or more missed mortgage payments). Will assess the client's financial situation, offer help with budgeting, set up a plan, and make the initial call to the mortgage holder to determine a workable solution. Does not provide funds to clear up delinquency or foreclosure.

Offers an opportunity for homeowners with strong credit histories, who are having difficulty because of an adjustable rate mortgage reset, to refinance into a prime-rate FHA-insured mortgage.
