Appoints Guardian ad Litems (GALs) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). The GAL represents the child's best interest by performing an investigation and interviews of the family and their situation. GALs have been trained for this position and are generally attorneys, social workers, or psychologists. A GAL may be appointed for reasons such as to ensure the child's views are heard or one parent's behavior may be hurting the child. A CASA is a volunteer who can serve children with open cases with the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services, typically children at risk for abuse, neglect, dependency, and aging-out of the foster care system.
Provides community volunteers who are assigned to an abused and neglected child, often in foster care, making sure the child is safe, that the child's needs are met, and helping the child get the safe, permanent home.
