Environmental Protection, Information, And Complaints | Ohio Environmental Protection Agency

Establishes and enforces standards to protect air and water quality (including lead in water), as well as solid and hazardous waste management and cleanup. Insures proper handling of solid wastes and hazardous materials including radiative substances, toxic fumes, and explosives. Offers information and education about environmental issues such as air quality, water quality, water supply, and others. Handles non-emergency complaints about violations of state's environmental protection laws. Examples of complaints include (but are not limited to) smoke or heavy dust emissions from industrial facilities, illegal dumping, burning of trash or tires, drinking water issues, destruction or draining of wetlands, and discharging industrial or agricultural waste into water or storm sewers. Offers opportunities for citizens to participate in public advisory groups, public information sessions, and public hearings. Can provide information regarding lead in water including if the area is under an advisory and/or what actions one can take.

Waste Management / Recycling | Darke County Solid Waste District

Provides and manages recycling drop-off sites and assists residents in finding alternative recycling resources. Operates recycling programs in area schools. Offers recycling and community clean-up events and hosts special events for electronic, pharmaceutical, and hazardous household waste collection, as well as used tire collection and document shredding. Investigates reports of illegal dumping, littering, and burning. Develops environmentally safe solid waste management plans to achieve Ohio's goals for waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste management in the region. Helps communities and businesses implement cost-effective and environmentally safe solid waste management practices. DOES NOT RECYCLE TELEVISIONS BUT GIVES REFERRALS TO AREA FOR-PROFITS THAT WILL RECYCLE THEM FOR A FEE.

Sustainability Program | Franklin County Public Health

The Sustainability Programs work to protect and maintain the natural environment, human health, and ecological health. It does this by working with partners such as SWACO and MORPC. These programs also minimize solid, infectious and hazardous waste in the community. It is also responsible for regulating and enforcing disposal of waste into approved facilities, including landfills. Investigates illegal dumping and environmental crimes.
