Provides legal assistance for LGBTQ+ individuals. Cases may include criminal justice victim support. **They are unable to accept cases involving criminal defense, personal injury, medical malpractice, tenant defense, adoptions, and cases involving a request for monetary damages**

Assists elder crime victims (age 60 and older) with a variety of services such as safety planning, trauma support, support during investigations and prosecutions, emergency repairs, spiritual support, and mediation services whether or not anyone was arrested or prosecuted. Works closely with Adult Protective Services.

Offers an online tool kit to help crime victims search for information on rights and navigate protections that follow them through the phases of the criminal justice process: hospital, investigation, prosecution, post-conviction, and throughout the process.

Provides non-emergency information and referral services for Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull Counties via telephone and online public resource database; text program for food pantry referrals; basic information and referral for surrounding areas, state and national resources. Staff is trained in crisis intervention, suicide prevention and supportive listening.

Services include accompanying victims to court, informing victims of case status, advocating on behalf of victims, providing emergency transportation to court, informing victims of their rights, providing information on Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation Program, discussing safety issues, providing referrals, and public speaking.

Some individuals wish to take civil or criminal legal action after experiencing interpersonal violence. SAOP advocates can provide detailed information regarding these processes, offer accompaniment, and provide further support as the case proceeds.

The Victim Assistance Program offers many supportive services specific to the needs of victims of crime. In addition to ensuring that crime victims are aware of their rights, advocates provide case information, court escort, assistance with victim impact statements, assistance with civil protection orders, appropriate referrals, and information specific to the criminal case, including post-conviction information. Our trained advocates are here to answer any questions or concerns, and will attempt to lessen the impact that crime and the criminal justice process can have on families and individuals.
