Hospital Advocacy For Sexual Assault/abuse | Crime Victim Services

Provides support and assistance in the hospital emergency room to victims of rape, incest, and sexual assault as well as the families of those assaulted. Volunteers meet survivors at the hospital and stay with the victim through the physical exam and the police report. Volunteers provide support through interviews, medical exams, trauma and financial problems, and court proceedings (regardless of whether or not the offender is arrested or prosecuted).

The Victim Assistance Program offers many supportive services specific to the needs of victims of crime. In addition to ensuring that crime victims are aware of their rights, advocates provide case information, court escort, assistance with victim impact statements, assistance with civil protection orders, appropriate referrals, and information specific to the criminal case, including post-conviction information. Our trained advocates are here to answer any questions or concerns, and will attempt to lessen the impact that crime and the criminal justice process can have on families and individuals.

Can answer questions regarding custody, criminal charges, protection orders, dissolution and divorce, and property issues. Advocates may attend legal and court appointments with the victim as requested. Advocates are NOT attorneys, but can assist with filing for Victim Compensation as well as provide screenings and referrals for legal aid.

Support groups for sexual assault victims and non-offending caregivers of sexually abused children are available periodically. Sexual Violence is our primary focus, but any victim of any crime is welcome to use our services.
