Partnering with Summit County Job and Family Services to provide one-on-one case management assistance with cash, food, or medical assistance/benefits. Case managers can assist with turning in documents, applying or re-applying for assistance, reporting case changes, and other case/eligibility questions.

Processes complaints and advises how to handle problems regarding housing discrimination. Offers information and help on the nine protected classes in the state of Ohio including race, ancestry, military status, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. Provides advocacy for tenants with disabilities in cases where the landlord is required by law to address accessibility issues (such as the installation of grab bars, ramps, and in cases where an assistance/therapy animal is needed). Contacts the landlord to inform them of their responsibilities (if needed).

The court may appoint, after hearing and investigation, a guardian for a minor or for an adult who is found to be incompetent to take proper care of himself or his property. A guardian, with court supervision, is responsible for making personal and/or financial decisions for the ward. Court supervision is accomplished, in part, through the filing of reports and accountings by the guardian. Both a minor and an adult ward have a number of rights and protections to insure against an unnecessary or ineffective guardianship, including, for the adult ward, the right to be represented by an attorney.

Provides a list of available rental units, assistance in helping those with specific housing needs, such as multiple bedrooms and specific locations, locate available housing, mediate between landlords and tenants, and assist with housing discrimination cases. Also provides reviews of leases and their conditions prior to the signing of the lease. Agency provides housing counselors certified by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Provides legal assistance which may include information, advice, or representation as well as online resources to help with the following issues: *Medicaid or Medicare *Managed care plan issues *Long-term care facilities/nursing home *Hospital Care Assurance Plan (HCAP) *Medical debt lawsuits *Enforce rights as disabled person to participate in state and federal programs

Provides food, child care, Medicaid, cash, transportation, rent and utility assistance; child support enforcement; paternity establishment; child protective services; foster parent licensing and training; adult protective services.

Provides comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault services. Programs: * Counseling * Emergency Shelter * Victim Advocacy * Danger Assessment Program * Rape Crisis Center

Offers a fee installment plan program for individuals whose driving licenses have been suspended or revoked, who have met all their reinstatement requirements except for paying reinstatement fees, and want to have their driver privileges restored.

Provides guardianship services, protective and advocacy services for adults18 years or older with developmental disabilities in the state of Ohio; technical assistance; speakers available for groups.

Assists veterans and their dependents in filing benefit claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Will also refer to other veterans' services that may be of further help to the client. Does not assist with unemployment applications.

Investigates complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, credit, higher education, and public accommodations. May file a complaint on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability, age, military status, and marital or familial status. Mediation to help settle disputes dealing with discrimination may be offered to those who have filed a complaint.

Legal services are provided during legal clinics. Referrals to community attorneys who offer pro bono or discounted services are also given.

Provides residents outside the City of Newark with Landlord/Tenant counseling and mediation; housing discrimination investigation; enforcement and complaint processing services; subsidized and market-rate housing information and referral; educational presentations and tenant educational services.

Provides information, forms, and pro se packets for those seeking to file for legal custody or visitation Pro Se (by themselves without Legal Counsel). Will assist those interested in filing for custody or visitation of a child by determining, explaining and providing the appropriate paperwork. Will review the completed paperwork for completeness prior to filing at Juvenile Court. Will also review Poverty Affidavits for the Juvenile Court. Does not provide legal advice.

Provides veteran support services including individual and family counseling and treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; coordinates support groups for Vietnam and Vietnam era and later veterans and for their significant others; makes referrals for needed professional services. Also offers bereavement counseling.

Assists with the preparation of formal claims for benefits on behalf of veterans and eligible family members.

Provides resources to assist in resolving claims questions or problems.

Provides advice and representation concerning denial, reduction, termination, and/or overpayment of county, state, and/or federal public benefits such as OWF (Ohio Works First); Disability Medical Assistance (DMA); Medicaid; Prevention, Retention, and Contingency (PRC); Healthy Start; Food Stamps; Social Security; Medicare; Supplemental Security Income (SSI); and other public benefit programs including Unemployment Compensation benefits.

Provides advice and representation in some limited bankruptcies when loss of home or income garnishment are threatened. Advice and representation may also be available in matters such as auto repossession, bill collection, unfair and deceptive practices, garnishments, home improvement problems, used car sales, auto repair, credit reporting, and student loan payments.

Provides assistance with filing Civil Protection Orders (CPO), crisis intervention, safety planning, and information and referral for survivors of domestic violence.

Offers comprehensive special education services for children age 6 to 22 with developmental disabilities that reside in Lake County.
