Provides legal services for low-income victims of domestic violence. Services include divorce issues for recent victims of domestic violence. Will also assist in filing for those who are seeking a Civil Protection Order (CPO). Some cases are handled by staff attorneys and some are referred to volunteer lawyers who have agreed to provide free services.

Cooperates with local private attorneys who will file simple, uncontested divorces for a fee. Advice and/or assistance with "pro se" (D-I-Y) court filings is also available on a variety of other family issues including visitation, contempt of previous court orders, and adoption defense.

Evaluates cases whether filing a divorce or having been served with divorce papers, provided hearing date is more than 14 days away, and where one of the following is true: - The applicant or minor child has experienced an incident of abuse within the last 60 days; - The abuser has threatened to kill or physically harm applicant or commit suicide within the last 60 days coupled with physical violence in the past year; - The abuser is subject to charges or protection order for offense of violence within the past 60 days or a CPO has been issued against abuser; - The abuser is incarcerated for offense of violence and has made new threats of abuse to applicant and incarceration will end in less than 12 months; - Cases where the relationship was not abusive, the parties do not have minor children, there are no joint assets or debts and the parties have been living apart for at least 1 year.

Method of resolving conflict that involves disputing parties sitting down together with a skilled impartial individual called a who helps them work out a voluntary solution to the problem that is acceptable to everyone involved. *Family Conflicts: such as parent/teenager, elder care, spousal disputes, and separation and divorce mediation. *Neighborhood Conflicts: issues like noise, pets, parking, litter, property lines, etc. *Workplace Conflicts: help co-workers and employees/employers resolve conflicts that might otherwise lead to the loss of employment for an individual.
