The Preble County Historical Society acquires, protects, and maintains for the enjoyment and edification of the current and future generations buildings, structures, objects, sites, or entire districts that have historical, archeological, conservation & environmental projects, hiking trails or cultural significance.

Offers soil erosion control and stormwater evaluation assistance for housing sites, commercial construction and lot splits. Provides education assistance to the public on stormwater issues in Lorain County. Sells various native plants.

Provides leadership and services that enable Ohioans to conserve, protect, and enhance soil, water, and land resources.

Provides a natural resource consultant for services such as technical advice to setting up ponds, land management, and erosion control

Provides sanctuaries for rare plants and animals in areas restricted to bird watching, hiking, nature study and photography. Permits may be required to access certain areas, especially for research and off-trail activities.

Provides soil interpretations, erosion, drainage, conservation planning and natural resource management.

Provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain and improve the natural resources and environment in Lorain County.

Provides assistance on conservation practices and improvement of soil and water resources to all Carroll County land users through educational workshops, technical assistance, on-farm visits and cost share programs to encourage good stewardship. Sells tree seedlings and fish fingerlings. Offers soil testing.

Provides water quality education non-point source pollution education and technical assistance with conservation practices such as filter strips, windbreaks and wetlands. Funding is available through the Farm Bills programs. Also provides consultations on natural resource reviews for landowners and local governments. Services include environmental education programs, homeowner conservation practice assistance and the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission.

Operates as a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to preserving land throughout Northern Ohio. Works with landowners, communities, government agencies, and other non-profit organizations to protect natural areas and working landscapes.

Consults with non-farm rural landowners on a variety of land use concerns, including soil information, drainage and erosion problems, as well as wetland issues.

Assist landowners with natural resource guidance and engineering improvements. On behalf of the Richland County Commissioners; manage the county stormwater and erosion control regulations permit generated; manage NPDS (National Pollutant Discharge System) Permit Program of Ohio EPA Reporting. Administer Pollution Abatement Program to all crop and animal producers to find solutions for non-point source pollution.

Helps contractors/developers/homeowners to use the most effective conservation practices on construction and existing sites.

Provides assistance to landowners in most phases of soil and water conservation, planning and engineering. Services include:tile drainage, erosion control structure, ponds, drainage ditches, animal waste facilities, dikes, pumps, sod filter strips and surface drainage, farm planning, educational programs, and district projects such as seedling tree and windbreak program, fish sale; Also assists with county ditch maintenance program

Provides financial and technical assistance and easement programs for conservation on working lands. Services include: assistance with planning goals for farming projects, developing conservation plans, and filing applications for agency programs.

Protects natural areas with ecological and/or geological significance. State nature preserves are not parks. Instead, they are sanctuaries for rare plants and animals. For this reason, preserves are suited for minimum impact activities such as birdwatching, hiking, nature study and photography but not picnicking or camping.

Works with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Offers information and educational materials on a variety of topics including: - Erosion and sediment control. - Drainage problems. - Stream bank erosion/restoration. - Soils. - Wetland. - Conservation easements. - Animal waste management/pollution abatement. - Farm conservation planning. - Equine management. - Woodland management. - Riparian setback ordinance interpretation and variance assistance.

Inspects and monitors drainage and sediment regulations on construction sites in Cuyahoga County in order to prevent pollution from storm water runoff and soil erosion. Offers technical assistance to developers, land owners, and municipalities in order to ensure compliance with state and federal permits such as: road layouts, stream, and wetlands protection, proper stream crossings, slope stability, natural resource inventory, and suggested site layout. Conducts and makes available county-wide soil surveys which may be of use to potential property buyers who need information on potential pollutant and/or water table information and to landowners when looking to site a building or before entering a lease for oil and gas drilling. Provides Watershed Coordinators who work in specific watershed areas to evaluate problems and then implement action plans to improve the watershed by working with all stakeholders of the watershed area. Additional information may also be provided regarding soil types, soil health and soil assessment.
