Provides fire services for the residents and businesses of Bedford. Provides smoke detectors and batteries, offers blood pressure screening, CPR and AED training, carbon monoxide checks, fire extinguisher classes, fire safety inspections, car seat inspections and fire prevention information.

Conducts interior and exterior housing complaint inspections regarding issues like trash accumulation, water infiltration, pest infestations, lack of proper utilities, and structural issues.

Provides Lead Safe Certification navigation, community outreach and organizing, resident and landlord education, and lead safe workforce development training.

Nursing and community health division providing: communicable disease follow-up; immunizations for children and adults; foreign travel immunizations; flu shots; case management for children with medical handicaps; community health assessment and education; tuberculosis clinic; preventative health services. Offers information and permits regarding air pollution control, industrial air emissions, and outdoor burning. Offers information about asbestos program by calling 225-4436 Regional Air Pollution Control Agency (RAPCA). Offers information about indoor air quality and radon. Also offers a 24 hour phone line (223-3222) which provides taped information about the air quality (mold and pollen counts etc.) in Dayton.

Monitors the mosquito population and apply controls for mosquito reduction to reduce the incidence of mosquito biting and mosquito borne disease within Richland County.

Provides increased awareness of elevated blood lead levels. Identifies sources of lead poisoning and hazards through testing and refers the results to other agencies (Ohio Department of Health (http://www.odh.ohio.gov), Doctor's office, Mansfield Metropolitan Housing, etc) Promotes childhood lead poisoning prevention to parents and homeowners.

Provides an environmental assessment of the home and case management for the child who has been tested and shown to have an elevated blood lead level.

Provides pest control services and investigates established infestations. Offers advice and guidance regarding steps individual property owners can take to eliminate infestations.

Provides inspection and issuing of permits and licenses for food service operations, retail food establishments, vending machines, mobile and temporary foods, private water supplies, private sewage treatment systems, campgrounds and recreational areas, public swimming pools, spas and bathing areas, municipal solid waste landfills, tattoo establishments, dangerous wild animals, septic haulers. Includes in-house evaluations for real estate and water testing and inspections/evaluations of school sanitation, resident camps/jails, nuisance complaint investigations of sewage/solid waste/waste disposal and housing and premises sanitation.

Consultation and referrals by staff to residents or organizations affected by bed bugs and provide information such as fact sheets and website links. No funding is available to help with infestation.

Responsible for sewer maintenance, water connections within the public right of way, and treatment of sewage and wastewater. In case of basement flooding, will send an inspector to the site to determine if blockage or break is in the main sewer line (for example, the storm sewer in the street) or on private property (from the curb to the house). Can only address issues with publicly owned sewer line. The sewer line from the curb to the house is the homeowners' responsibility. Where possible, will give the property owner advice on what is needed to remedy the problem. Takes complaints and reports from consumers concerning water and sewage service and will answer questions about billing. Prepares annual drinking water quality reports, and responds to inquiries about water pollutants. Reads water meters monthly.

Offers free honey bee swarm removal and relocation by club members. Also offers removal of live honey bees from structures. NOTE: If insects are coming out of a hole in the ground or out of a paper or mud nest, they aren't honeybees and a beekeeper cannot provide assistance.

Provides a hotline and website that offer resources on pest control measures. Trained pesticide specialists are available to discuss the risks of pesticide and non-emergency pest and pesticide-related health information. It is not a poison control center nor does it have regulatory authority.

Accepts anonymous report information about the activities of people who are illegally disposing of litter, dumping and/or committing an environmental crime.

Offers home and facility repairs for lead-based paint mitigation. Eligible repairs include window and door replacement; siding, soffit, and fascia enclosure; porch component repair, other items.
