Lead is a naturally occurring element found in small amounts in the the earth's crust that can be toxic to humans and animals and cause adverse health effects. Homes, buildings, schools or daycare centers built before 1978 may contain some lead paint. Lead can damage nearly every system in the human body and has harmful effects on both adults and children. Lead poisoning is the greatest environmental threat to children in Ohio. FCPH offers a home lead inspection service for a fee.
Provides fire prevention / firefighting services. Provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) services with trained paramedics. Also offers periodic CPR classes, emergency preparedness, annual hydrant inspections, and unannounced yearly inspections of structures to ensure compliance with fire codes. Provides smoke detectors. Provides speakers about fire safety for public education programs. Children are also educated about fire safety issues through the use of a mobile fire safety house.

Identifies sources of lead poisoning and hazards through testing and refers the results to other agencies (Ohio Department of Health (http://www.odh.ohio.gov), Doctor's office, Mansfield Metropolitan Housing, etc) Promotes childhood lead poisoning prevention to parents and homeowners.
