Monitors the mosquito population and apply controls for mosquito reduction to reduce the incidence of mosquito biting and mosquito borne disease within Richland County.
Protects the public from unhealthful or unsanitary environmental conditions by establishing and enforcing health codes and regulations. Responds to public health nuisance complaints. Inspects homes and other properties for compliance with health standards. Initiates litigation against those who have consistently failed to comply with requirements, when needed.

Accepts complaints of infestations of insects, rodents, and other pests which may endanger the health of the community or cause damage to homes and other structures. Investigates and offers guidance regarding steps property owners can take to eradicate infestations.
Provides the following permits, licenses, and inspectional services (individual department phone numbers are listed behind each description): rat and rabies control, environmental health, nuisance complaints, landfill, trash truck, well water, and septic inspections (225-4362); plumbing permits and inspections (225-4421); housing inspections outside of the Dayton city limits (225-4428); food service operator licenses, bar, grocery, restaurant, swimming pool, hotel, and mobile home inspections (225-4460); lead paint poisoning preventions programs, information about lead paint hazards, and inspections for the presence of lead paint in homes (225-5553); and vending machines, mobile home park, motel, and mobile food service inspections (225-5915).

Provides inspection or education on methods of clean-up regarding a variety of health hazards in the home environment. Topics include the hazards of: high grass over 8", trash & debris, stagnant water, insect infestation, lead, illegal dumping reporting in public and privately owned lots, rodent control, (inspector places poison in animal burrows outside the house), mold (especially regarding black mold that grows on water-soaked cardboard and unpainted wood), as well as inspections and licensing of public establishments in order to enforce existing health codes. Inspects tenants' homes for bedbugs and cites landlords but will not inspect homeowners. NOTE: Homeowners who request assistance with rodent control or home sanitation may be cited for corrective action if the health inspector decides the situation warrants.

The Health Department provides mosquito control activities to reduce the spread of mosquito related diseases. If you live in Muskingum County you may request spraying for your neighborhood and report problem areas.

Hocking, Athens, and Perry County residents may be eligible for a one-time heat treatment to exterminate bed bugs from their homes. Households must have one minor child and be at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED: - Photo ID (head of household) - Social Security Card (head of household) - Income Verification: Pay Stubs 1Bank Statements (for all household members with income) - Proof of Homeownership or Rental Agreement.
