Program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will follow up with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. KCHD will send a public health nurse to assess the home environment and the individual and then we can provide adaptive equipment if needed, offer recommendations, make referrals to other agencies and connect with the individual’s healthcare provider.

Provides fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services for the City of Fairview Park. Offers public fire safety awareness information, seminars on fire safety, and carbon monoxide testing. Answers questions concerning state and local fire and building codes and will conduct fire safety inspections for businesses. Will address concerns regarding smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Provides tours of the fire station.

Provides a wide range of services for families, including referrals to child care and early education programs that meet their family needs for child care. Provides assistance to parents and families on a variety of parenting topics, including discipline, literacy and special needs. Provides childcare provider training, a lending library with books and supplies for childcare providers, fingerprinting services and the Step Up To Quality program for type A childcare.

YWCA offers babysitting classes for grades six through eight. Classes focus on safety and life skills. Students participate in small group interactive learning, role-play and practice rescue skills with manikins. Students must attend all three classes to be a registered as a Safe Sitter. Membership NOT required.

Provides calendar of community training workshops, seminars, and programs pertaining to child care and early education. Also offers family childcare home providers support, materials, consultation, and networking opportunities. Provides training to professionals regarding children with special needs who are in their care.

Provides a multi-session class that reviews techniques and strategies to educate individuals in ways that they can prevent themselves from falling. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and are encouraged to exercise to increase strength and balance.

Provides simulated miniature towns with scaled down roads, crosswalks, commercial storefronts, traffic signs, traffic signals, railroad crossings and school buses that young children can visit and ride tricycles through to learn about safety. The curriculum is varied and includes such topics as fire safety, safety belts, pedestrian safety, bike safety, bus safety, stranger awareness, and playground safety.

Provides a pool facility for recreational swim. Also provides aquatic programs such as swim lessons, water fitness, and swim teams.

Responsible for the control and extinction of fires in urban or wilderness areas; the inspection of buildings and hillside property to ensure potential fire hazards; and the maintenance of equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur.

Provides a number of programs to benefit and protect the community. Programs include seatbelt safety, drug and alcohol prevention, sexual predators,computer safety, identity theft, seniors fraud prevention, crime prevention and vacation security checks of outside of residents property.
