Speech disorders occur when a person has difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently (such as stuttering) or has problems with their voice or resonance. Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others, sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Social communication disorders may include problems communicating for social purposes (like greeting, commenting, asking questions), talking in different ways to suit the listener and setting, and following rules for conversation and storytelling. Swallowing disorders are feeding and swallowing difficulties, which may follow an illness, surgery, stroke, or injury.

MCHD provides evaluations for assistive technology for eligible children.

CMH offers evaluation for assistive technology for children living with disabilities. Entry must be made through CMH approved physician. Local health departments may assist with entry to Diagnostic Program.
