Ohio utilizes the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Program to administer food stamp distribution. Eligible families receive an electronic card with a dollar credit equal to the maximum monthly benefits based on family income, family size, and other eligibility criteria. Benefits are automatically added monthly to a debit card, which is used for food shopping (those who are homeless or have zero income may be eligible for one month expedited benefit within 24 hours). Benefits that are not used in a month may be carried over to the next month, up to one year. The extra SNAP payments that were provided during the COVID pandemic have ended as of March 1, 2023. There is no way to appeal the end of these funds.
