Mercer County Veterans Service Commission provides veteran burial benefits.

Services offered will vary with the cemetery. Provides a headstone or marker to be placed at any cemetery but does not pay for placement of the headstone or marker if not at a national cemetary. VA will pay up to $796 toward burial and funeral expenses for deaths on or after October 1, 2019 (if hospitalized by VA at time of death), or $300 toward burial and funeral expenses (if not hospitalized by VA at time of death), and a $796 plot-interment allowance (if not buried in a national cemetery). Provides United States burial flags and memorial certificates.

In some cases, may assist with indigent burial. Assistance is in the form of vouchers. Amount of assistance is based on demonstrated need.

We have the Veterans Honor Grounds, and will assist in the burial of a veteran if the family does not have the financial means. We can also assist with information and burial in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

May include (but is not limited to) financial assistance with prescriptions, transportation expenses, utilities, food, rent, mortgage, basic necessities, etc.

Main Post Office for Mansfield. Post Office process passport applications for United States citizens. Regular applications have a 6-12 week waiting period to be issued, but can be expedited and issued sooner by paying additional fees. Hours are by appointment only. Provides Selective Service Registration materials to facilitate the registration process. Provides burial flags for veterans through a partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Assists the family of a veteran with the following burial benefits: * Acquiring DD214's * Indigent Burial Benefits (may not exceed $999 in aid) * Burial flag * Grave marker (will reimburse family $60 of the setting fees) * Presidential Memorial Certificate * Military Honors

Major benefits include veterans’ compensation, veterans’ pension, survivors’ benefits, rehabilitation, employment assistance, education assistance, home loan guaranties, health insurance, burial benefits and life insurance coverage.

Provides an Indigent burial program to help low income veterans, or their spouses to deal with an unexpected loss. Also answers question on what benefits are available for your estate and affairs as well as end of life care.

Provides emergency financial assistance to Montgomery County resident veterans who qualify and establish a bona fide need for the following assistance: utilities (electric, gas and water) food (foodbank) mortgage or rent payment and burial benefits. Veterans may be able to receive up to $1,000 to go towards their insurance deductible for the tornado assistance.
