Champaign County Community Habitat for Humanity is part of an international Christian organization that renovates and builds houses in partnership with low income, first-time home buyers. These homes are then sold at no profit to partner families with a no interest loan. Home prices are kept low primarily by using volunteer labor. Funding is obtained through donations and grants. Government money is only used for land acquisition, infrastructure (sidewalk, utilities, streets, etc.) and administrative expenses.
Eligibility: None to volunteer. Partner families need to currently be living in sub-standard housing, have a steady source of income, meet income guidelines and be willing to partner by providing sweat equity hours. A credit report will need to be submitted with the application.
