Provides a vending machine that contains Naloxone Hydrochloride (Narcan) medication to individuals at risk of opioid/opiate overdose and to their friends and family in an effort to reduce fatal overdoses. Also provides supplies such as safe sex kits and fentanyl test strips.

Distribute test strips which can be used to detect the presence of fentanyl, xylazine, and many of their known analogs in a drug sample to reduce the number of opioid-related overdoses, severe injuries, fatalities, and other complications from contaminated drugs.

Provide Pack N Play portable cribs and Safe Sleep Survival Kits to families and caregivers that are unable to provide a safe sleep environment due to financial hardship. Survival Kit contains a sheet for the Pack N Play, a sleep sack for the infant, a bedtime storybook and educational materials for the parents. Family must come to Board of Health office to pick up Pack N Play and receive instruction on proper assembly and use before taking Pack N Play home.

• Free Pack n Plays to WIC income eligible families with a baby under the age of 12 months.

Kit includes two (2) nasal sprays containing naloxone, one (1) face shield for rescue breathing, and instructions. Will receive instruction on how to recognize and respond to an overdose (as well as distinguish between different types of overdose) and how to administer intranasal Naloxone to reverse the opioid overdose.

Kit includes 2 vials of medication, a small tip sheet on how to recognize an overdose, and where to access additional educational videos. When administered during an overdose, naloxone blocks the effects of opioids on the brain and quickly restores breathing. It has no potential for abuse.

Offer comprehensive psychiatric, counseling and case management services, various support services, for people struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues.

Substance Use Disorder services include one-one-one counseling with a drug addiction counselor; administration of Vivitrol is available from a healthcare provider: Naloxone doses available to prevent overdose deaths. Counseling provides individuals with an opportunity to actively pursue emotional healing and personal growth, in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Although our difficulties are unique, we all face trials of many kinds. Facing these trials, with the support of a counselor, can be an empowering experience. Recovery Support Group SMART Recovery is FREE and is held Tuesday evening. Support group help people learn self-empowering tools and members will provide support for each other in recovery. The goal of SMART Recovery is for you to achieve a healthy, positive and balanced lifestyle so you can conquer new challenges. Groups are held at the Knox County Community Health Center - Mount Vernon, Ohio location (Health Department) in the Conference Room on Tuesday evening at 6 pm. This group meets for about an hour and is open to anyone, no matter where they are at in their journey to recovery. There is no need to pre-register, and there is no fee to attend the support groups.

Free Naloxone Kits are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis to community members who want to be prepared and trained to administer Naloxone in the event of a possible opioid overdose. In expansion of the Meigs County Health Department’s Harm Reduction Program and Project DAWN (Naloxone) Program, MCHD is now offering FREE Fentanyl Test Strips (FTS) to those who need them.

Fentanyl Test Strips are offered at Licking Memorial Urgent Care locations in Newark, Pataskala and Granville. Individuals may visit an Urgent Care and ask for the strips at the front desk. The test strips are provided with a contact number for Shepherd Hill, the treatment center associated with Licking Memorial Hospital. Shepherd Hill offers a variety of services for individuals who are struggling with drug addiction.

The Clean Needle exchange program provides sterile needles, syringes and other injection equipment for used needles to help combat blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. Participants can exchange one clean needle for one dirty needle, up to 50 needles and will never leave with more needles than they bring in.
