Responsible for the correct disposal of all private household sewage systems in a manner which will protect surface and groundwater from contamination. This division reviews, plans and regulates new and replacement sewage systems. Responsible for proper private water supply systems (such as wells, cisterns, etc.)

Responsible for preventing, investigating, controlling and extinguishing fires. Activities include fire safety education, firefighting, investigating the causes of suspicious fires, maintaining equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur, and enforcing fire codes which protect lives and property from fires and explosions.

Public library services.

Free meals are available Mondays through Fridays after school for youth at select Library locations. Participants must eat their meals at the library.

A structured 7-week, 8-session group class administered by a certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist provides clients with the skills, tools, and support to successfully stop smoking. Nicotine replacement products are available for no charge to class participants.

Offering free, fresh produce giveaways at various locations.

The Public Utilities Department oversees water and sewer services.

Provides a service where customer's may purchase propane by 1/2 tank or full tank on a payment plan of 4 payments. The 1st payment must be made at set up (delivery). If the customer still needs assistance, call to see if there are other payment arrangements that can be made.

Offers subsidized rental housing in single-family homes and apartment complexes owned and managed by the public housing authority. Housing is offered for eligible families, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities.

Provides 24-hour telephone crisis intervention services for individuals who have experienced some type of sexual assault.

Accepts volunteers to help with providing activities for residents (such as teaching arts and crafts, or helping with children's activities) and to help organize storage areas or clean. Volunteers receive orientation and training on the first day of services. In some cases, volunteers may use their services as a reference on their resume.

Offers four (4) residential rate discounts: 1. RECYCLING DISCOUNT - All Akron residents are eligible to save $2 per month on their bill by requesting a free recycling container from the 311 Contact Center and by recycling bottles, cans, newspapers, and so forth. 2. HEAP DISCOUNT - Offers a 50% reduction of upcoming sewage rate increases for low-income Akron customers who are accepted for HEAP assistance. 3. HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION DISCOUNT - Offers savings over $8 per month for homeowners who have been approved for the Homestead Exemption. 4. GO GREEN CREDIT OFFER - Offers a one-time credit of $5 for customers who switch from receiving their water/sewer/curb service bill in their mail box to a bill by e-mail.

Provides a place where people with alcohol use disorder provide mutual support for each other. Fellowship and information is provided through meetings attended as often as needed.

Provides a weekly dine-in hot meal for the community including individuals in need.
