Throughout the year the Children’s Services Division of the Knox County Department of Human Services sponsors parenting sessions for parents of children of all ages. There is also a teen specific group to assist teens in the handling of certain issues including; dealing with authority, self-esteem, and setting consequences for actions taken, and a variety of other problems and circumstances that teens face on a daily basis.

Offers interpreting and translating services are available for a fee for courts, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, health care providers, and other local organizations through a Language Bank of about 100 paid interpreters with a total of 54 languages. After hours interpreters are provided ONLY for life threatening situations such as hospital or medical emergencies, car accidents, domestic violence, and rape crisis. After hours interpreters ARE NOT provided for DUI, hospital discharge (unless scheduled in advance), private individuals, or other similar circumstances.

Works with local law enforcement, prosecutors, social workers, and victim advocates to coordinate medical and mental health services for children and their families when dealing with a case of sexual abuse. Assist families going through an abuse investigation. Coordinates forensic interview and medical exams with medical professionals to be performed on site.

Two card types are available: compliant cards, which meet federal REAL ID requirements for air travel, and standard cards, which are not accepted for domestic air travel as of May 7, 2025. Individuals may not hold both a state identification card and a driver’s license. Cards are valid for eight years and expire on the holder’s birthday.

Awakening Lane is a revolutionary option for women working to create a new way of living in recovery, located in Newark. We welcome single women over the age of 18. We also welcome pregnant women and women caring for their baby while living in Recovery. While participating in our program, residents will have the opportunity to live in a home that fosters a safe and supported learning environment to help them continue sobriety. Residents of Awakening Lane are held accountable. For the safety of each resident, they will be drug tested, alcohol tested, and subjected to a curfew. In addition, they will be helped them with their specific needs as they pertain to their personal recovery path, finding employment, signing up for future assisted / affordable housing, and furthering their education. Our residents will support each other, making real friendships and having new experiences that will outshine old, intrusive memories that can lead to relapse. Whether new to recovery or re-committing to the journey, we will offer a safe haven, a place to discover the awesome blessing of recovery.
