Neighborhood Lifelines: Foreclosure Prevention presentations are available to existing organizations/churches/neighborhood groups to provide basic information to help them help reach out to others in the community.

Offers classes on a variety of topics including budgeting, saving, improving credit, workforce literacy (prejob guidance, life skills, etc.) computer training and preparing for home ownership. One on one counseling in these areas is also available upon request.

Provides information on issues affecting individual finances, including preventing mortgage foreclosure, consumer issues, budgeting, wealth building, and notary services for the community.

Provides mortgage foreclosure counseling and assists consumers in avoiding predatory loans. Counseling provided by member real estate professionals. Offers information and recommendations so that clients can make appropriate decisions to settle delinquent mortgage payments or to get out of default. In some cases, agency may contact and negotiate with lender on behalf of client in order to resolve the situation. Offers counseling on pre-purchase home counseling, classes to get pre-certified for FHA home purchasing and other housing counseling certificates, budget and credit counseling.

Provides contact information for agency approved counseling agencies throughout the service area. Provides information, sometimes through seminars and workshops, on how to buy a home. Also assists homeowners with problems of property maintenance and financial management. Organizations with expertise in real estate can apply to become approved counseling agencies.

Provides guidance through the steps of cleaning up credit, purchasing a home and obtaining a mortgage. Offers seminars on topics such as buying a home and home equity loans.

Provides zero-interest loans to qualified residents who need to make home repairs. Offers home repair assistance as well as financial counseling, home buyer education, tool lending library and home repair classes.

Offers a free HUD-approved home buyer education and pre-purchase counseling program. Participants must complete the eight hour education component and a 1-2 hour individual counseling session. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Provides HUD-certified Homebuyer Education workshops to improve financial literacy to the residents of Lorain County. Offers homebuyers two courses (four hours per class) focused on Financial Literacy (budgeting and saving) and the home ownership process to prepare participants on the homebuying process. Provides HUD-certified housing counselors who work with individuals to critique, instruct and prepare plans of action to prepare potential home buyers to qualify for home purchase loans. Individuals are required to take an 8-hour homebuyer education class on site or online.

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency’s (OHFA) Ohio Heroes rewards Ohio residents who serve the public with a discounted mortgage interest rate. You can choose to include down payment assistance in your Ohio Heroes loan. Down payment assistance is forgiven after seven years. If you sell or refinance your home within seven years, you must repay all of the assistance provided. Qualified buyers are required to complete free homebuyer education. Information on OHFA’s streamlined education program is available on our website or, you may complete a course offered by any U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency in Ohio.

Funded by the federal Office of Housing and Urban Development to provide prepurchase and mortgage default counseling, home equity conversion (reverse mortgage) counseling, and information about the HUD rent assistance program for current and prospective purchasers and tenants.
