The Summer Crisis Program provides assistance to eligible families to offset high electricity costs associated with the summer cooling season. Applicants for SCP assistance must be 60 years of age or older or have a documented breathing problem and must have household income at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines according to household size. Air Conditioners may also be available.
Bills for water/sewer and storm water in the City of Tallmadge. Duties include construction, reconstruction, extension, repair, metering and billing of the water works system. Supplies residents with potable water through adequate pumping and distribution facilities. Potable water comes from Lake Rockwell, is treated at Akron’s nearby water supply plant and then pumped through three (3) force mains to reservoirs. Tallmadge has the water pumped through two (2) force mains and then through the pump station.
Offers a levelized payment plan under which the utility predicts what future bills will be for a customer based on the prior year's bills and anticipated changes going forward. Offers budget billing plans which are intended to level out swings in utility bills due to seasonal changes in customer consumption and do not affect overall utility charges.

The Home Energy Assistance Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying an electric bill or assistance paying for heating or air conditioning repairs. Eligible customers may also receive a portable air conditioner or fan. The program assists low-income households with an older household member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. Eligible households can receive up to $300 if they are a customer of a regulated utility, or $500 if they are a customer of unregulated utilities such as electric cooperatives and municipal utilities. The benefit can be a combination of a portable air conditioner, fan and/or utility assistance. Utility assistance is applied to a customer’s utility bill or applied to central air conditioning repair costs.

The utility company calculates a customer's monthly bill based on a rolling 12-month average of the customer's previous bills, meaning customers receive bills for similar amounts during peak heating and cooling months and during off-peak months.

Provides an extended payment arrangement that requires regulated gas and electric companies to accept payments based on a percentage of the household income for eligable households.

Assists American Electric Power (AEP) customers who are facing or experiencing electric power shut-off by working with AEP to avoid/reverse shut-off and, in some cases, develop a revised payment plan and household budget. This is a program of last resort and clients should have exhausted all other options before applying.

Households that have a disconnect notice, have been shut off, have a PIPP Default, or are trying to establish new service on their electric bill are also eligible for assistance. The maximum amount for bill payment assistance is $500 for regulated utilities and $800 for unregulated (usually government provided such as the City of Columbus). Also provides window air conditioners and fans to qualifying individuals. Also can pay up to $500 to repair central a/c units of homeowners as long as there is no outstanding payment on the electric bill. Must be repaired by a state certified vendor.

May also assist with the purchase or repair of major appliances ($750 maximum per calendar year). May assist with the purchase of bed frame, box springs, mattress, cribs and child beds ($500 maximum in 12 month period). Provides up to $2000 in moving expenses in certain cases (once per lifetime). In some cases may be able to help with home repair services (generally, only enough to cover a small repair). May consider assisting with other housing related needs at the discretion of the agency. Does not assist with PIPP Plus payments.
