Evaluates cases related to consumer issues such as credit card collection attempts or lawsuits, or court debt from criminal cases; student loans, payday loans, auto title loans; home repair contracts or other contracts; recent repossessions, threats of repossession; and lawsuits following car repossession; medical or nursing home collection.

Provides the following legal services for low-income clients with consumer protection and debt collection defense issues: advice on exempt assets and income, non-dischargeable debts and alternatives to bankruptcy, debt collectors and access to credit, fair debt collection, garnishment and liens, denial of credit; and consumer products and services, repossession, rent to own, warranties and contracts, telephone and utility bills, unfair sales practices, home improvement, and challenging credit reports.

Provides legal assistance which may include information, advice, or representation as well as online resources to help with the following issues: *Bankruptcy, Debt collection, Foreclosure *Consumer scams or unfair/deceptive practices *Credit reporting, including rental reporting and tenant screening *Student loan debt *IRS Notices, Examinations or Audits, Debts and Collections *Tax Related Identity Theft and Verification *IRS Tax Liens, Levies or Garnishments *Problems with joint returns, innocent spouse, injured spouse status Filing Status: Federal tax credits including Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Economic Impact Payment *US Tax Court Cases

Provides representation to low-income clients by 3rd-year law students, operating under the supervision of faculty. Cases handled include consumer home repair, misdemeanor criminal cases (in select suburban courts see eligibility), benefits advocacy, Social Security Disability appeals, health care issues and guardianship removal. The clinic CANNOT handle family law cases, health care personal injury or malpractice cases, bankruptcy or felonies, does not help with employment law concerns, and does not assist with expunging of criminal records.

Assists with consumer and debt issues, including bankruptcies and debt collection defense.

Evaluates health care cases related to Medicaid or Medicare (denials, terminations)and delays in processing applications; applicants waiver services (in-home health supports, nursing, or aide services) have been reduced, denied or terminated; overpayments where collection of overpayment creates a risk that other benefits will be taken to collect the overpayment; problems with Medicaid/Medicare for currently or formerly incarcerated individuals.

Evaluates cases related to consumer issues such: - Credit card collection lawsuits, or court debt from criminal case(s); - Student loans, payday loans, and auto title loans; - Home repair contracts or other contracts; - Recent repossessions, threat of repossession, and lawsuits following car repossession; - Medical or nursing home collection.

Provides free legal assistance via phone regarding problems that affect older adults living in Ohio. Subject areas include civil law issues such as consumer problems, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, subsidized housing, wills and estates. If the legal problem cannot be solved over the phone, the client may be referred to a private attorney who can provide the service. Also offers pamphlets on a variety of legal topics.
