Providing legal assistance to Akron tenants facing eviction. - Offered in partnership with the City of Akron and United Way of Summit and Medina.

Provides free, civil legal services to those in need in eight counties throughout central northeast Ohio. Offer screening for those seeking legal assistance; legal information, advice and representation for qualifying clients; community education on legal issues; public advocacy and awareness of the needs of low-income individuals and families; continuing legal education workshops and training; partnership with and training for community organizations.

Provides advice and representation for those being evicted, foreclosed upon, locked out, having difficulty obtaining repairs from a landlord, or who have had utilities terminated. Advice and representation may also be available to those who wish to enforce special rules of subsidized housing, or those seeking assistance with land contract problems and housing discrimination matters. Evaluates cases related to problems with public and subsidized housing (Section 8, Housing Choice Voucher Program, buildings administered by the federal housing agency, and others) including: evictions; termination from subsidized housing programs; rent related matters or issues involving tenant groups, denial of applications for subsidized housing that are based on prior criminal history or a criminal background check; and claims for money damages related to tenancy.

Assists families who are behind in their rent or mortgage to remain in their homes and regain financial stability, as well as security deposit assistance for families in transition. Services vary based on the needs of the individual family, but can include mediation and rent/mortgage payment negotiation with landlord/lender, help accessing utility payment assistance programs, and financial counseling. Up to $1500 in assistance may be available. Support for school-aged children in the household may include access to low-cost computers (funding for computers is currently out). Will also assist with property tax payment to remain in their homes and regain financial stability.

Provides first month's rent and security deposit to help veterans establish permanent housing. Will also help with rent to help veterans stay in their current housing. Clients are provided with benefits assistance, landlord/tenant assistance, and case management to ensure that they are connected to available community resources and VA benefits.
