Provides information and answers questions regarding food safety issues such as storage, handling, preparation, product dating and content, seasonal foods, preventing foodborne illness, and power outages. Publicizes warnings to the public to avoid foods that may be a health hazard such as foods that are contaminated or contain potentially hazardous ingredients. Accepts consumer complaints regarding problems with meat, poultry, or egg products only. Handles complaints on issues such as incorrect packaging or foreign objects (plastic, glass, etc.) in food items.

Provides information about the West Nile Virus, a virus which is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and/or rabies. West Nile Virus causes mild, flu-like symptoms in healthy people and serious inflammations of the brain and spinal cord in people who are elderly or who have compromised immune systems. Rabies is an infectious disease transmitted by animal bite to humans that can result in paralysis and death if not treated. Hotline staff can provide information on symptoms, control, and other issues related to both diseases.

Maintains free hotline to provide information about recalls and to receive reports on unsafe products and product-related injuries. Provides information to the public about appliances, clothing, electronics, electrical power devices, furniture, household products, lighting/lighter products, sports/exercise equipment, toys, and other consumer products that are subject to voluntary or mandatory recall or about which safety concerns have been registered.

Maintains a searchable database of recall notices issued by automotive manufacturers when vehicles, car seats, tires, and other automotive equipment has been found to have safety-related defects.

Provides information on water boiling alerts which are issued to the community in an effort to protect citizens from unsafe drinking water. An alert is issued after positive tests (samples for fecal coliforms, changes in turbidity measurements), or water main breaks. When an alert is issued, information regarding that particular incident will be publicized. In general, when an alert is issued water should be boiled for three minutes and cooled before drinking. Also, water should be let to run out of the tap for about five minutes before using the first time after shut-off.
Responsible for communicable disease control in Preble County, including rabies and tuberculosis control. Pays for medications for indigent tuberculosis patients and performs follow-ups with them.

Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio (PPSWO) strengthens our community by preventing unintended pregnancy and empowering individuals with the knowledge, opportunity, and freedom to make private decisions about their reproductive and sexual health. PPSWO provides family planning services, this includes services for birth control, STD testing and treatment, annual and breast exams, pregnancy test and options counseling, UTI, Trich, yeast and bacterial vaginosis testing and treatment, PEP and PREP testing and prescriptions as well as comprehensive sex education training.

Monitors beaches along the Lake Erie shoreline for E. coli and other harmful bacteria. Water samples are collected at the beaches and the results are reported to the public. Offers a web site where the information is posted and can be accessed by the public. If the bacterial levels are greater than the recreational standard, a sign is posted at the beach to warn swimmers of the risk of illness.
