Seeking persons to volunteer as tax counselors for Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan county clinics. Counselors are also asked to volunteer for one clinic per week, or three hours per week from the end of January to the end of March. Training: Provided free of charge by our trained Clinic Coordinator and is completed in one of our clinic sites. Training's will be held Mid- January and an at home study and practice is available once the training is completed. Liability: Volunteers are not held liable for someone else’s tax return. It is the client’s responsibility to make sure the information provided is accurate and complete. Clients are required to sign a release form at the beginning of the session. Volunteers do not sign completed tax forms. Support: Help is also available by calling the Financial Stability Partnership Coordinator at United Way.

LCCH is looking for volunteers to help with the 2024 tax filing season. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one 4-hour session per week, for the 11 week filing season. The key skills required are: a basic understanding of the tax filing process, familiarity with computers and the ability to relate to clients. Intake volunteers are required to pass an IRS ethics test. Tax preparers are required to pass an IRS certification test at either the basic or advanced level. LCCH will provide tax law and software training during the month of January 2025. The filing season will begin the last week of January and run through April 15. Volunteers will be able to choose the site location and volunteer shift that best fit their schedule. Both drop-off and in-person preparation styles will be used this year.

Types of Volunteer Roles needed - Greeter – You greet everyone visiting the site to create a pleasant atmosphere. You screen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they have the necessary documents to complete their tax returns. Tax law certification is not required for this position. - Interpreter – You provide free language interpreter services to customers who are not fluent in English. Basic tax knowledge is helpful, but it is not required for this position. - Designated Quality Reviewer – You review tax returns completed by volunteer tax preparers, ensuring that every taxpayer receives top-quality service and that the tax returns are error-free. Quality reviewers must (at a minimum) certify at the Basic level or higher (including specialty levels) based on the complexity of the tax returns reviewed. - Volunteer Tax Preparers who answer tax law questions, prepare, or correct tax returns, or conduct quality reviews of completed tax returns, must certify in Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Intake/Interview & Quality Review, and tax law. The preparer’s certification level must be at, or above, the level needed for the tax returns prepared.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, which provides free tax preparation at the Mary E. Babcock Library in Johnstown, the Licking County Aging Program/Heritage Hall in Newark and the Buckeye Lake Library, is seeking volunteer tax preparers for the upcoming tax season. Volunteers file federal, Ohio and school district tax returns in a much-needed service that’s free, individualized and has no strings attached, saving each client up to several hundred dollars in tax preparation fees and providing him or her with the reassuring knowledge that his or her taxes are done correctly. Tax-Aide volunteers come from all walks of life. Current volunteer preparers include a beautician, teachers and sales people. Basic computer skills and an interest in helping people are all that is required. Training is provided, and each new volunteer is assigned a mentor who is available throughout the tax season to answer questions and help solve problems. Volunteers are asked to work at least one day a week during the 12-week tax season.

Volunteer opportunity to assist Knox county residents with their income tax preparations. This is a web-based, counselor-assisted program. Volunteers are needed to assist as tax preparation counselors. As a tax counselor, you will receive one day of training, after which you will be asked to assist clients with tax preparation throughout the tax season at the United Way office. You will be able to determine a schedule that works best for you. Counselors must be comfortable working with a computer, but need not have a background in tax preparation.
