Provides maintenance of the sewer system for the City of Berea. In case of basement flooding, will send an inspector to the site to determine if blockage or break is in the main sewer line (for example, the storm sewer in the street) or on private property (from the curb to the house). Will snake from the curb to the house to remove blockage if property has a street opening to sewer line. Will not snake line from inside the house.

The county agency that is responsible for enforcing all laws and regulations, preventing crime, investigating criminal activity, apprehending, arresting and detaining suspects, preventing and suppressing delinquency and engaging in other activities that protect lives and property and preserve peace in the community. Provides waste management services for the township. Includes garbage and large item removal, recycling, and dead animal pickup.

Contracts with a private company to provide regular pick-up of houeshold trash and curbside recycling. The city provides pick-up of large trash items one day a year (such as large boxes, furniture, etc.). Does not pick up used tires or household toxic waste (such as car batteries, mercury, etc.). Leaves are picked up in the fall.

Professional educators provide community programs and screenings to promote health and wellness. Programs include Women in Touch, Healthier at Home, Resource Mothers, Fatherhood Support, Centering Pregnancy, Hispanic Health, Stepping Out, Prescription Assistance and community health events for men and women. Screenings include blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, osteoporosis, body fat, balance, and carbon monoxide.

Provides inspection of basement with standing water to assess the cause of the backup. If possible, will snake line to clear blockage.

Offers special event locations for Appliance Collection, Computer/TV Collection, Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Scrap Tire Collection. Events change each year so please call ahead or visit website at www.wasteabate.org to verify event.

Accepts large, unwanted appliances (such as: refrigerators, washing machines, or dishwashers) for recycling. Also offers free Freon removal. Workers will unload appliances from vehicles. Tires not accepted at the collection facility. The District works with local townships to host tire recycling "round-ups" where residents can dispose of old tires right in their own community.

Provides pouches to be used for the safe disposal of outdated and unwanted medications. The pouches deactivate drugs and render the chemical compounds safe for landfills. Each bag can be used to dispose of 45 pills, 6 (six) ounces of liquid medication, or 6 (six) medicine patches. - The bags are provided by the Summit County Community Partnership for the Deterra Project.

Accepts and provides proper disposal of oil-based paints, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks, batteries, and hazardous household chemicals such as: gasoline, engine fluids (antifreeze, brake fluid, etc.), oils, stains, mercury, photo chemicals, dry cleaning fluids, wood preservatives, strippers, solvents, paint thinner, sealant, degreasers, wood stains, arsenic, herbicides, pesticides, rodent killers, insect sprays, pool chemicals, creosote, fertilizer, ammonia, bleaches, disinfectants, and other caustic household cleaners. Does not accept explosives, acetylene tanks, or medical waste. Staff unloads all materials from vehicles.

Offers a community-sponsored program that allows residents to rake leaves into a pile on the side of the road (or the edge of their property) for pick up by a vacuum truck on designated days.

Will address issues with publicly owned sewer line, and refer client to appropriate agency for sewer line problems on private property.

Take-Back Days: These occur twice a year and locations are offered in Athens and surrounding communities. Enables the safe disposal of unwanted and expired prescription and over the counter medications. Pills should be removed from bottles and placed in baggies. This is a great opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft. *Acceptable items for disposal are: Prescription drugs, Over-the-counter medications , Pet medications, Vitamins , Ointments, creams or lotions , Liquid medications, cough syrups . *Items NOT accepted include: Liquids, injectables and inhalers.

Organizes local clean-up events for items such as tires, hazardous waste, and appliances. Manages the county recycling program. Enforces solid waste managment ordinances and statutes. Issues permits for solid waste management facilities and haulers.

Provides waste collection, pick-up of large items such as appliances, and recycling services by contract for the Village of Gates Mills. Will pick-up dead animals from public property.

Promotes participation in recycling.
