The Employment Services program offers a broad range of assessment, training and job placement services and provide on-on-one support to reach personal employment goals. Work Assessments offer opportunities for "job tryouts" with community-based employers to determine areas of interest and existing skill sets. Job Development focuses on the outcome of community job placement. Individuals may receive assistance with resume development, interview proficiency, job search techniques and employer advocacy. Job Coaching assists individuals to develop the skills to be successful in community employment by offering supplemental training and oversight to solidify job performance. Transition Services assist students, ages 14-22, with preparation for employment via career exploration and job readiness training. Job club, Summer Youth and Project SEARCH programs were designed specifically to achieve the employment goals of students transitioning into the workforce. We also provide Job Readiness and Career Exploration classes for Jr. High and High School students from throughout our service area.

youthOPPORTUNITIES is a community-based program in Ashtabula County that offers participants year-round access to a wide variety of services depending on their personal needs. The program focuses on youth who either need help to successfully continue in school and graduate or who need assistance completing their high-school equivalency (GED) while getting and keeping a job and becoming more self-sufficient.

Local employers can hire Knox County youth at no cost to their company and youth can be introduced to career fields through a program with Opportunity Knox. Opportunity Knox, the county employment center, launched a youth paid work experience program in early October, through which the wages of youth who participate are paid fully by OhioMeansJobs.
Opportunity Knox arranges job placements for 12 weeks, with the option to extend for an additional eight weeks, for up to 32 hours per week. Once placements conclude, employers can offer participants a permanent position, although receiving a permanent offer is not guaranteed. Those who participate in the program also receive soft skills training and mentoring from an employment services counselor, who can help navigate issues like tardiness, miscommunication, etc., and thus prevent firings and quits.

Projects include mowing, weeding, bush/tree trimming of vacant (city/county-owned) and private lots. Garden prep, fences, planters and pergola building are also included. Also entrepreneurial skills and extra spending money via stipends is provided. Youth participants will also participate in math, writing and reading skills tutoring.
For most enrolled students in the Yard Corps program, orientation, ongoing training and Ohio Learning Standards study time with professional tutors will be offered.
