Advocates for people who are applying for, or receiving services from BVR or BSVI, and/or the Independent Living Centers throughout Ohio. Provides information on Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Peer Support Staff members with like disabilities who are living independently are always available to talk with and provide support for consumers. Problem solving in areas such as learning to use community services more effectively, adjusting to a newly acquired disability, or a change in living accommodation are only a few topics that can be discussed. Individual and group support through role models encourages consumers to seek ways to enhance their quality of life and to contribute to their communities.
Provides an online directory of services for families and caregivers of someone with a disability. Lists both for profit and nonprofit organizations that offer services specifically targeting those with disabilities. Examples of services listed include medical equipment providers, counseling services, home care support providers, legal services, recreational camps/activities, and more. Offers educational programming on topics of interest to those caring for a person with a disability or special need and publishes a guidebook of services. Offers caregiver training for both consumers and profesionals.
