Addresses general questions about situations that come under the jurisdiction of the Ohio Landlord Tenant Law or HUD regulation. Provides support to Ohio residents and organizations seeking guidance on a variety of housing issues such as landlord-tenant law, the Fair Housing Act, tenant organization, and affordable housing preservation. Note: Does not provide legal representation, housing referrals, or financial aid.
Evaluates cases where tenant is being evicted and the tenant HAS A WRITTEN lease. The case must involve: - Tenant is living in a foreclosed property; or - Lease with an option to purchase, lease with an automatic renewal, or lease with at least four (4) months remaining on term; land installment contract. Will also evaluate eviction cases where there is NO WRITTEN LEASE but: - Tenant is living in a foreclosed property; or - Tenant alleges retaliation or discrimination. Will evaluate ALL cases involving: - Utility shut-offs and lock-outs; or - Child is found to have lead levels above five (5) micrograms per deciliter and Department of Health or landlord has not followed up; or - Manufactured/mobile homes. In all housing cases, applicant must apply for service and deliver papers to Legal Aid at least eight (8) days prior to hearing.
