Sisterhood / Summer Of Sisterhood | West Side Community House

Provides an after school learning lab with computers, reading materials, and tutors. Overall focus is on literacy. Includes: service learning, college and career exploration, health and wellness, social skills and self-esteem, recreation trips, among other services. Also offers a competitive summer arts program where girls work with professional artist/teachers in several areas of the arts including: music and poetry composition, creative writing, dance, acting, or graphic design. Girls write music and lyrics, choreograph, perform, and record a CD of their work. Live performance at end of summer.

Career Development | Inroads - Great Lakes Region

Provides college students with programs designed to equip them with skills, practical work experience and insights necessary to become successful in business, technical and/or allied health careers. Services include mentoring and leadership development activities. The goal is placement in a job following graduation, preferably with the sponsoring business. Also provides a support group for the parents of participants, who meet to assist the development of their children, to further their own professional development, and to plan fundraising activities. There is also an active alumni group.

Offers community-based meetings and discussions for underrepresented minority populations in Lorain County. These meetings will address these groups' unique challenges in accessing mental health services and provide valuable information and resources to overcome these barriers. Life Skills X Golf | Project Lift Services

Offers a program to assist in building self-confidence and self awareness in an effort to resolve past trauma, avoid substance abuse and end cycles of poverty. Program includes sessions on resolving conflict before it escalates, managing money and building credit, time management, goal-setting, effective communication, critical thinking skills for problem solving, and avoiding premature fatherhood. Program may include participation in a golf program.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) | Ncba

Helps those minorities who are age 55 or older and of low income to improve the quality of their lives by obtaining paid employment and training. Individuals are placed in local non-profit agencies. Also will help in matters pertaining to housing information, health promotion and advocacy by giving referrals/suggestions as needed. Participants may be eligible for up to 4 years of employment.

Program is based on Africentric mentoring and rites of passage. Simba matches African American male youths with African American men from the community to act as role models and give friendship, support, and guidance to the young men. Mentors are assigned for a minimum of six months.
