The PRC program in Ohio helps families overcome immediate barriers to achieving or maintaining self-sufficiency. The program provides benefits and services to families who are in need of help with essential support to become self-sufficient. The PRC Program is designed to:
  • Prevent families from having to apply for OWF cash assistance when a crisis arises;
  • Help families retain employment by enhancing job skills , overcoming barriers and providing short-term assistance or wage supplementation if necessary.
  • Provide for contingent needs by helping families with nonrecurring urgent problems that could, if left unattended, result in families needing long-term public assistance.
  • Support families receiving OWF with services to enable them to become self-sufficient.
Examples of short-term assistance through PRC include:

The Helping Paws Program enables people living with cancer and their caregivers to obtain care for their pets during the emotional, physical, and financial challenges of cancer treatment. This national program, uniquely designed to provide free support services to people struggling to care for their pets during their cancer treatment, will be comprised of the following core services:
  • Financial assistance to qualified individuals who are both pet owners and in active cancer treatment to offset expenses, including pet food; pet walking/sitting and other caregiving services; boarding fees; veterinarian expenses including vaccinations and appointment fees; flea, tick and heartworm prevention; medications; and lab fees
  • Educational webcasts focused on caring for pets throughout the cancer journey, to cover topics such as how to care for one’s pet during cancer treatment, guidance on how to reduce one’s risk of infection from pets, as well as finding local support programs
  • Wide dissemination of print/digital materials specific to pet care and self-care during cancer treatment, including a database of resources
  • Free counseling services for both people with cancer and their caregivers.

Provides financial and other supports to eligible young adults to assist in finding and maintaining safe and secure housing (possibly rent, deposit, and/or gas, electric or water utilities), food, clothing, personal care items, educational and training expenses, and other services that assist with transitioning from foster care to adulthood.
