Advocates can meet survivors at the hospital to provide emotional support, explain options and ensure that their rights and choices are respected throughout the process.

Knox County EMA hosts free Community Emergency Response Team training classes. The training promotes a partnering effort between emergency services and the people that they serve. If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, CERT members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learned during training. The Pickaway Metropolitan Housing Authority accepts applications for Section 8 Housing vouchers when the applicant is a spouse of a U.S. military veteran, spouse or widow (not divorced) of a veteran and the veteran meets VA qualifying criteria. Veterans must complete a paper application when the waiting list is closed to online applications. DD214 or other VA documentation must be submitted to qualify for placement on the HCV waiting list. Veterans receive preference on these waiting lists. All applications are placed on the waiting list by date and time of application, with veterans placed above non-veterans according to the date and time of the veteran application.
